Open a Publisher file on a phone, tablet or Chromebook
Updated
Microsoft lists Publisher as "for PC only", so there is no Publisher app for iPhone, iPad, Android or Chromebook. Open this site in your browser and upload the .pub file. You see page 1 and can download page 1 as a PDF for free, and a paid download gives you every page as PDF, Word, PowerPoint or PNG.
How to open a .pub file on a phone or tablet
- Save the file to your device. For example, save the attachment from the email it came in.
- Open this site in your browser. Use Safari, Chrome or any other browser. There is nothing to install.
- Upload the file. Tap the upload box and pick the .pub file from your device's files.
- Check page 1. Page 1 shows as a picture. Download page 1 as a PDF for free.
- Download the format you need. Choose a paid download for every page as PDF, Word, PowerPoint and PNG. A paid download costs $9 for one file, or $19 for up to 25 files in one upload.
Which file to download on a phone
- Choose PDF when you want to read, print or share the file.
- Choose PowerPoint when you want to edit the text and keep the page design, for example in PowerPoint or Google Slides.
- Choose Word when you mainly want to edit the text. Word puts the text and pictures one after another and does not keep the page design.
- Choose PNG when you want one picture per page to send in a message.
On a Chromebook
Use this site in Chrome. If you prefer a free desktop program, a Chromebook can run Linux apps: Google's help page explains how to turn on the Linux environment. LibreOffice offers Linux versions, and LibreOffice Draw, its free drawing program, opens .pub files.
